The Bregenzerwald – tradition, nature and culture at its best
The Bregenzerwald is located in Vorarlberg, Austria’s westernmost state, and encompasses 22 communities. The hospitality of the ‘Wälder’, as the locals are known, is legendary, and art, culture and cuisine characterise the region. With around 3,500 inhabitants, Egg is the largest municipality and an ideal starting point for discovery tours – Dornbirn is only a 30-minute drive away, and Lake Constance is also easily accessible.
Thanks to its proximity to several airports, including Altenrhein and Zurich, the region is easily accessible for guests from near and far. This makes the BregWald Chalets an ideal destination for international recreation seekers as well.
Winter magic and a leisure paradise right on your doorstep
In winter, you have access to nine ski resorts, all within a 30-minute drive. From the family-friendly Hochhäderich to the challenging Mellau-Damüls ski resort, the region offers the perfect terrain for every winter sports enthusiast. Those who prefer to get off-piste will find numerous routes for challenging ski tours in the Bregenzerwald, as well as a wide range of leisure activities such as winter hiking trails, toboggan runs and romantic horse-drawn carriage rides.
The Bregenzerwald is equally beautiful in summer. Hundreds of kilometres of hiking trails lead through the Alpine landscape, which also offers plenty of variety for mountain bikers. Visitors can enjoy regional cuisine in mountain huts and on hill farms, while cable cars make it easier to access the region’s highest peaks. For culture lovers, the Schubertiade, the most important Schubert festival in the world, is an absolute highlight.
